a poem for this school year's eve:
What Doctors Took Seven Years to Discover
He sits cross-legged on the sofa.
In his lap, a library book about Amazing Alphie,
a little computer wired
differently from all the others. Yelled at.
Laughed at. Saves the day.
A tear slides down my boy's lip,
but his eyes are calm. I'm Alphie, he says.
Relieved this feeling finally has a name.
