to begin again

a poem for this school year's eve:

What Doctors Took Seven Years to Discover

He sits cross-legged on the sofa.

In his lap, a library book about Amazing Alphie,

a little computer wired

differently from all the others. Yelled at.

Laughed at. Saves the day.

A tear slides down my boy's lip,

but his eyes are calm. I'm Alphie, he says.

Relieved this feeling finally has a name.
